I CANNOT UNDERSTAND YOU - INFORMATION
I fell stupidly in love with Vienna when I lived there in the Summer of 2003.  It didn't matter to
me that I couldn't speak the language, or read the signs and all that.  I just loved it.  That
sensation got me thinking about the way I love other things that I also don't feel compelled to
"understand" - art, music, fireworks, amusement parks, flowers, beer.  It has always struck
me as very sad when people get all flummoxed by a painting or film because they feel they're
missing the message.  This film is a call to enjoy without understanding.

Filmed throughout Vienna and sometimes in Budapest, I am thankful to all the people who
helped me and agreed to let me film and record them.  Also, a big thank you to Otto Mörth
who acted as translator to some very skeptical Vienese wanderers, and to my uncle, Robert
Baeumler, who allowed me to use photographs of his paintings in the film.
